Cabinet Reshuffle: Key Changes in Indonesia’s Government

Jakarta, September 8, 2025, - President Prabowo Subianto introduced a series of adjustments to the Kabinet Indonesia Maju. Several new ministers were appointed, a new ministry was created, and interim arrangements were put in place to ensure continuity in key portfolios.

Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa was sworn in as Minister of Finance, taking over from Sri Mulyani Indrawati. Trained as an economist and engineer, Purbaya studied at the Bandung Institute of Technology before completing his doctorate at Purdue University. His career has spanned leadership roles at the Indonesia Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS) and Danareksa Securities. Upon his appointment, he noted the need to strengthen both private and public sector activity to support the government’s growth agenda.

In the Ministry for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers, the position is now held by Mukhtarudin, who replaced Abdul Kadir Karding. A long-time member of the Golkar Party, Mukhtarudin previously served in the House of Representatives and is recognized for his involvement in economic and labor-related issues during his time in parliament.

The Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs also saw new leadership, with Ferry Joko Yuliantono elevated from deputy minister to minister. His experience in managing programs for small enterprises and entrepreneurship is expected to provide continuity while offering fresh direction for the portfolio.

One notable development from this reshuffle was the creation of the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah. The post is held by Mochamad Irfan Yusuf, formerly Chairman of the Hajj Management Authority, who has pledged to improve services and make the cost of pilgrimage more affordable. He is supported by Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak, a Gerindra Party politician with an academic background in economics and public policy, who has stressed integrity and competence in building the new ministry’s staff.

Changes were also made to senior coordinating positions. Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, currently serving as Minister of Defense, was named Acting Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs following the departure of Budi Gunawan. Meanwhile, the post of Minister of Youth and Sports, previously held by Dito Ariotedjo, remains vacant pending a new appointment.

Overall, the reshuffle introduces a mix of political figures and technocrats into the cabinet. The adjustments are intended to bring renewed energy into governance, while maintaining policy continuity in areas such as fiscal management, labor protection, and public service delivery.
